"BUT NOT FORGOTTEN" IS A FEATURE LENGTH DOCUMENTARY WHICH FOLLOWS A MOTHER ON HER QUEST TO FIND THE TRUTH ABOUT THE CIRCUMSTANCES BEHIND HER SON'S MYSTERIOUS DEATH.

A LOST SON/A mother's QUEST FOR TRUTH

February, 2014: Lovely Varaghese’s son, Pravin, is found dead in a heavily wooded area near his college campus in the dead of winter. Lovely is told by the officials that his cause of death is hypothermia. Upon first viewing Pravin's body, the funeral director notices undeniable bruises and deep gashes and immediately notifies the family.

An instinctive move,  Lovely has an independent autopsy conducted in Chicago by, Dr. Margolis, the director of The Autopsy Center of Chicago. From his findings it is revealed to her that Pravin in fact did not die of hypothermia but from blunt force trauma.

Devastated, Lovely begins her intense search for the truth of what really happened. Although mounting evidence shows that Pravin's death was no accident, Lovely has little to no success with convincing the State's Attorney to treat this case as a homicide and not an accidental death.

Met with constant frustration and uncooperative officials, it’s 2 years later and she still has yet to find out what has happened to her son and why no one is cooperating with her.

Along her search, Lovely meets Larry Young, a resident of Carbondale who lost his daughter in 2012 under suspicious circumstances. Lovely and Larry find that their experiences their search for truth behind the deaths of their children and dealing with the authorities have haunting similarities and begin to support each other.

Joined by a community of supporters and sympathizers, Lovely continues her search. With dwindling resources and limited time to keep the case open, she continues to search for the truth around her son’s death in hopes that his death is not forgotten.

"NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE FOR A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION"

MORE EVIDENCE EMERGES BUT STILL NOT ENOUGH FOR CRIMINAL CHARGES ACCORDING TO THE STATE'S ATTORNEY

ALTHOUGH MORE EVIDENCE IS REVEALED WHICH CONFLICTS with STATE'S ATTORNEY MIKE CARR'S ORIGINAL CLAIMS, HE still HOLDS FIRM IN HIS DECISION NOT TO FILE CRIMINAL CHARGES

"Mike Carr's original statement had unsubstantiated claims based on incomplete forensic research that was later disputed by an alternative, comprehensive forensic examination along with other witnesses, yet he continues resist conducting a criminal investigation." .

3 KEY POINTS REVEALED IN NEW EVIDENCE

Originally the states attorney says that the evidence supports that Varughese died of hypothermia and that it was an accident, brought on by a combination of intoxication, rough terrain, frigid weather, little or no clothing and confused and poor judgement," but alternative evidence proves otherwise

STATE'S ATTORNEY MIKE CARR'S original stance remains:

“This was a tragic end to a young man’s life but neither the facts nor circumstances, which have been presented to me, support bringing a criminal prosecution against anyone.” -Mike Carr (state's attorney)

THE FILMMAKERS

Director Shajan Karouttu and Producer Joe Jones team up to help Lovely Varughese in her efforts to tell her story. With incredible passion these filmmakers have committed themselves to making this documentary, which conveys a powerful story of tenacity, courage in the face of immeasurable adversity as Lovely searches for the truth behind her son's death.

"We’ve committed ourselves to use our talents as filmmakers to make films that matter. We need to hear stories like Lovely’s. By hearing helping Lovely to tell her story in cinematic form, we get an intimate glimpse of the flaws in a system that was designed to protect us in circumstances such as Pravin’s death. Now that the flaws are exposed, as a community we can call to action the changes that need to transpire for a movement towards change for the better."
